The Soil Soil Moisture Processing System (SMIPS) estimates national
daily volumetric soil water contents at a 1km resoultion. All products
are considered experimental and should be used with caution. The system
ingests daily climate data and runs a simple soil water bucket model.
The Available Soil Water Capacity information is sourced from the Soil
and Landscape Grid of Australia. The model calculates daily soil
mositure fluxes which are also adjusted according to the SMOS satellite
observations.
Currently there are 2 national soil moisture map products available in SMIPS

The development of the SMIPS National Soil Moisture products and the creation of this web site has been made possible by the National Landcare Program, through the Department of Agriculture, Water Resources and the Environment, and by TERN, an NCRIS-funded national research infrastructure project.
